The Scolds Bridle was an instrument of punishment in the medieval ages, as a form of torture and public humiliation.The device is an steel muzzle in steel framework that enclosed the head.

The Bridle-bit (or curb-plate), is 3 inch long in and either presses down on top of the tongue or used to raise the tongue to lay flat on the wearer's palate. 

These is a very heavy duty form of punishment to any wearer. The Scolds Bridle is hand forged and left rustic looking straight from the fire.
